
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - After taking a 3-0 lead in doubles, the Kohawk men's tennis team held on for a 6-3 win over Augustana Saturday at the Clark Racquet Center. Coe College improved to 14-3 overall and 8-1 at home with the win.
Freshman Noah Sprinkel (Minneapolis, Minn./South) and junior Curtis Newman (Ankeny, Iowa/Ankeny) opened things up with an 8-3 win at number one doubles against Adam DeSimone and Andy Wall. Sprinkel was also a 6-2, 6-2 winner over DeSimone at number one singles, while Newman beat Jack Cullen 7-6, 6-2 at number four singles.
At number two doubles, sophomore Jeff Damisch (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy) and sophomore Michael Woolf (Palantine, Ill./Palantine) beat Lawrence Palmer and William Palmer 8-3. Damisch was also a 6-1, 6-4 winner over Wall at number three singles.
Coe's final doubles win came at number three, where sophomore Michael Janssen (Oshkosh, Wis./Lourdes) and senior Jonathan Roger (Minneapolis, Minn./St. Anthony Village) beat Cullen and Colin Arnold 8-4.
The Kohawks will return to action next Saturday, as they host Dubuque and Simpson in a pair of Iowa Conference duals. Coe will face the Spartans at 9 a.m. and the Storm at 12 p.m.
