CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Kohawks used a no-hitter in the first game of the Coe Tournament and a late two-run home run in the second game as they improved to 17-1 overall with wins over Wisconsin-Platteville and Ripon.

Senior Ashlee Simon (Riverside, Iowa/Highland) struck out 10 of the first 11 batters she faced against Wisconsin-Platteville, including the first six, as she threw her second no-hitter of the season and fourth of her career.  She struck out 12 for the game, as she improved to 8-0 on the year.  Coe allowed just one runner to reach base on an error in the fifth inning, but the runner was thrown out attempting to steal.

Coe's only run of the game came in the bottom of the first inning.  With one out, freshman Anna Corkery (Iowa City, Iowa/Regina) walked.  With two outs, Corkery stole second before scoring on sophomore Abby Flannagan's (Manchester, Iowa/West Delaware) third double of the year.

The Kohawks trailed 1-0 after the fifth inning in the final game of the day against Ripon, but scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth for the win.  With one out, senior Ashley Hood (Manchester, Iowa/West Delaware) reached on a throwing error by the second baseman.  With two outs, Hood stole second before scoring on a sacrifice bunt by junior Callie Morningstar (Lisbon, Iowa/Lisbon).  Morningstar moved to third on the play, as the ball was overthrown by the pitcher.  Flannagan stepped to the plate with the go-ahead run on third base.  After working a 3-0 count, the Red Hawks threw Flannagan a strike that she took.  Flannagan sent the next pitch sailing, as she drilled her 19th career home run.

Sophomore Maddison Woodruff (Emmetsburg, Iowa/Emmetsburg) improved to 7-1 in the circle with the win.  She struck out five while giving up eight hits.

The Kohawks return to action again on Sunday, as they host Ripon at 11 a.m. and Wisconsin-Platteville at 3 p.m.   Ripon and Wisconsin-Platteville will play each other at 1 p.m. at Clark Field.
