
PELLA, Iowa - The Coe College men's tennis team improved to 18-4 overall and 6-0 in the Iowa Conference with a 9-0 shutout of Central. The Kohawks are now 50-4 in Iowa Conference matches this spring.
The Kohawks opened the meet with an 8-3 win at number one doubles, as freshman Noah Sprinkel (Minneapolis, Minn./South) and junior Curtis Newman (Ankeny, Iowa/Ankeny) beat Seth Harris and Zane Hendricks of Central. Sprinkel was then a 6-1, 6-4 winner over Harris at number one singles while Newman was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Tim Kahl at number five singles.
At number two doubles, sophomore Michael Woolf (Palantine, Ill./Palantine) and sophomore Jeff Damisch (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy) beat Kyle Freischlang and Josh Forst 8-0. Damisch was also a 6-1, 6-3 winner over Hendricks at number four singles.
Coe took a 3-0 lead in doubles on a 9-7 win from sophomore Michael Janssen (Oshkosh, Wis./Lourdes) and senior Jonathan Roger (Minneapolis, Minn./St. Anthony Village) over Kahl and John Seier. Roger was then a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Seier at number six singles.
At number two singles, senior Victor Khristenko (Orel, Russia) beat Freischlag 6-4, 6-3. Coe's final win came from Sean Stokstad (Ramstein, Germany/Ramstein), as he beat Collin Schares 6-1, 7-5 at number three singles.
The Kohawks return to action on Sunday, as they host Carleton. The match is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. at the Clark Racquet Center.
