DECORAH, Iowa - The Coe College men's tennis team dropped its first Iowa Conference match of the season, as they lost to Luther 7-2 Friday afternoon. The Kohawks are now 19-7 overall and 7-1 in the Iowa Conference.
Luther jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles play. The Kohawks earned a 7-5, 7-6 win at number four singles, as sophomore Jeff Damisch (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy) beat Aaron Gendron. Coe's other win came at number five, as junior Curtis Newman (Ankeny, Iowa/Ankeny) beat Matt Bellio 6-7, 7-5, 10-5.
The Norse entered the match undefeated in Iowa Conference play and ranked 12th in the Central Region. The Kohawks were ranked 17th in the region entering the meet.
Coe will wrap up the regular season on Sunday, as they host Wisconsin-Whitewater at 11:30 a.m. at the Clark Racquet Center. Coe will participate in next weekend's Iowa Conference Tournament.
