CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College women's tennis team improved to 2-0 in the Iowa Conference Saturday with a 9-0 win over Buena Vista. Coe is yet to lose a match in IIAC play.
At number one doubles, junior Tai Lucero (Odessa, Texas/Permian) and senior Sara Ohlman (Washington, Ill./Washington) defeated Haley Henrichs and Tasha Nelson 8-0. Freshmen Laura Birky (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier) and Diannah Watson (Frisco, Texas/Lone Star) earned an 8-1 victory at number two doubles over Elizabeth Heffernan and Kelli Kroepel. Junior Elizabeth Hoffmann (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier) and sophomore Jordan Ferree (Pekin, Ill./Pekin) put Coe up 3-0 with an 8-2 win over Amanda Kavan and Kassidy Ipsen.
Lucero was a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Henrichs at number one singles, while Ohlman beat Heffernan 6-1, 6-1 at number two singles. Freshman Amy Sebastian (Mundelein, Ill./Vernon Hills) was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at number three singles over A. Kavan. At number four singles, Birky defeated Samantha Kavan 6-0, 6-0.
At number five singles, Ferree defeated Kroepel 6-0, 6-1. Coe finished the match with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at number six singles, as Hoffmann beat Ipsen.
The Kohawks improve to 2-1 on the year and are undefeated in the Iowa Conference. Coe returns to action on Sunday, when they travel to Waverly to face Wartburg. The match is scheduled to start at 12 p.m.
