
WAVERLY, Iowa - Coe College jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles play, as they beat Wartburg 8-1 in Iowa Conference women's tennis play. The Kohawks improved to 3-1 overall with the win.
At number one doubles, junior Tai Lucero (Odessa, Texas/Permian) and senior Sara Ohlman (Washington, Ill./Washington) defeated Melissa Davis and Claire Evans 8-3. Lucero then defeated Jennifer Dallenbach 6-1, 6-2 at number one singles. Ohlman was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over Katherine Ross at number two singles.
Coe's second doubles win came at number two, as freshman Laura Birky (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier) and freshman Diannah Watson (Frisco, Texas/Lone Star) downed Dllenbach and Michelle Mackenzie 8-5. The final doubles win for the Kohawks came at number three as junior Elizabeth Hoffmann (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier) and sophomore Jordan Ferree (Pekin, Ill./Pekin) beat Brita Jensen and Ross 8-3.
At number three singles, freshman Amy Sebastian (Mundelein, Ill./Vernon Hills) beat Davis 7-5, 6-3. At number five singles, Ferree beat MacKenzie 6-4, 6-2 while Hoffmann downed Jensen 6-1, 6-2 at number six singles.
The Kohawks return to action on Wednesday, as they host Linn County rival Cornell. The match is scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m. at Clark Racquet Center. The match is part of the Bremner Cup Series between the two schools. Coe enters the match with a 3-0 lead in the series.
