CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - 14 3-point baskets by visiting Buena Vista helped the Beavers come away with an 80-65 win over Coe Wednesday night at Eby Fieldhouse.  The win clinched an Iowa Conference Tournament berth for the 10th-ranked Beavers.
For the second time in as many meetings between the two schools this year, Buena Vista raced out to a commanding lead that set the tone for the game.  This time around, the Kohawks continued to claw away at the lead on their home floor, but could never make the run needed to put themselves in position to win the game.  The Beavers jumped out to a 12-3 lead in the game's first  3:23.

The Kohawks answered the big Beaver lead with a 10-3 run of their own over the next 4:04, holding Buena Vista to just one 3-point basket by senior guard Andre Wagner during the stretch.  Six points came from sophomore Dan Borngraeber (Brookfield, Wis./East) on the run.  With their lead down to two, the Beavers proved why they have been ranked in the top-10 in the nation most of the year with a 10-2 run of their own over the next 4:10.  Five different Beaver players scored during the run.

Freshman Jordan Cunningham (Mankato, Minn./East) hit a 3-point basket with :51 remaining in the first half to cut the Beaver lead to eight points before Steve Gute hit a layup with :24 remaining to give the Beavers a 10 point halftime lead.  The Kohawks forced 18 Beaver turnovers in the first half, but poor shooting (25 percent) by the Kohawks and hot shooting by the Beavers (48 percent) led the a 31-21 halftime lead for Buena Vista.

The Kohawks scored six of the first nine points to open the final half, but Buena Vista took over from there.  A 20-7 run by the Beavers, including five consecutive trips with a made 3-point basket, put the Beavers ahead by as many as 20.  Coe answered with a quick 13-5 run over the next 2:11 to cut the lead to 12 with 9:12 to play, but couldn't get any closer the rest of the way.  Coe held Buena Vista without a field goal in the final 4:33 of the game, although they scored eight points from the charity stripe during that period.

Freshman Kevin Gaster (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Jefferson) led the Kohawks with 16 points.  Sophomore Alex Tatman (Humboldt, Iowa/Humboldt) and freshman Jake Ramsay (Northfield, Minn./Northfield) added 10 and 11 points respectively.  Borngraeber led the Kohawks with six rebounds.

Cunningham and senior Christian Parent (Littleton, Colo./Littleton) each led Coe with three assists apiece.  Ramsay and senior Kevin Dux (Boulder, Colo./Fairview) added five and four steals respectively.

The Kohawks return to action on Saturday as they travel to Dubuque to face Loras.  Tipoff with the Duhawks is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
