
SAINT PETER, Minn. - Senior Michelle Schupbach (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Columbus) and junior Tai Lucero (Odessa, Texas/Permian) finished second in doubles at the ITA Midwest Regional, while Lucero advanced to the singles semifinals.
In the doubles semifinal, Schupbach and Lucero beat Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Taylor Heltne and Katie Gillman 8-3, advancing to the championship match against fourth-seeded Bridget Doyle and Mikayla Becich of Carleton. The Carleton duo downed the Kohawks 6-2, 7-5 for the title.
Lucero dropped a 6-3, 6-1 decision to Grinnell's Laura Krull in the semifinals. Krull went on to win the title 6-3, 6-4 over Jackie Vitale of Wisconsin-Whitewater. In the consolation bracket, Heltne defeated freshman Amy Sebastian (Mundelein, Ill./Vernon Hills) 6-0, 6-2.
The Kohawks return to action on Wednesday, as they travel to Central for an Iowa Conference match. The match is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. in Pella.
