
PELLA, Iowa - The Coe College women's tennis team won its sixth-straight match Tuesday, as they beat Central 9-0. The win improved the Kohawks to 6-1 overall and 5-0 in Iowa Conference play.
Senior Michelle Schupbach (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Columbus) and junior Tai Lucero (Odessa, Texas/Permian) defeated Angie Allgood and Megan Davis 8-3 at number one doubles. Schupbach was also a 6-2, 6-2 winner at number one singles against Allgood. Lucero won a 6-0, 6-0 match against Davis at number two singles.
At number two doubles, sophomore Jordan Ferree (Pekin, Ill./Pekin) and freshman Laura Birky (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier) beat Anna Bowser and Anna Striegel 8-2. Ferree also beat Striegel 6-3, 6-2 at number four singles. Birky picked up her second win of the day at number five singles, as she beat Amanda Kuhn 7-5, 6-3.
Coe's final doubles win came at number three, as junior Elizabeth Hoffmann (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier) and freshman Tamara Washington (Corona, Calif./NorCo) beat Ashlyn Huegel and Kuhn 8-5. Hoffmann was also a 6-2, 6-7 (6-8), 10-5 winner over Bowswer at number six singles. At number three singles, freshman Amy Sebastian (Mundelein, Ill./Vernon Hills) beat Chelsea Johnson 6-2, 6-0.
The Kohawks will play for the Iowa Conference regular season championship on Saturday. Coe hosts Dubuque at 10 a.m. and Loras at 1 p.m. The Kohawks need one win to clinch the Iowa Conference title.
