CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - For the second-straight year, the Coe College women's tennis team completed a perfect Iowa Conference regular season to win the league title. Coe beat Dubuque and Loras 9-0 Saturday to clinch the title.

With the two victories, the Kohawks won their 17th-straight Iowa Conference regular season match. The championship was the fifth overall for the Coe women's tennis program, as they previously won titles in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2011.

Coe opened the day with a 9-0 win over Dubuque.  At number one doubles, senior Michelle Schupbach (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Columbus) and junior Tai Lucero (Odessa, Texas/Permian) beat Nicole Schmaltz and Ashley Schlueter 8-2.  Schupbach was also a 6-2, 6-3 winner over Schmaltz at number one singles.

At number two doubles, senior Sara Ohlman (Washington, Ill./Washington) and junior Elizabeth Hoffmann (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier) beat Aoi Karino and Janine Wegner 8-2.  Ohlman then beat Schlueter 6-3, 6-1 at number two singles, while Hoffmann beat Wegner 6-0, 6-0 at number five singles.

Coe's final doubles win came at number three, as freshmen Laura Birky (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier) and Diannah Watson (Frisco, Texas/Lone Star) beat Stephanie LoCasto and Sam Serd 8-3.  Watson also had a 6-0, 6-0 win over Serd at number six singles.

The Kohawks also got singles wins from freshman Amy Sebastian (Mundelein, Ill./Vernon Hills) and sophomore Jordan Ferree (Pekin, Ill./Pekin).  Sebastian beat LoCasto 6-0, 6-0 at number three singles, while Ferree beat Karino 6-0, 6-1 at number four singles.

Coe opened the second match of the day with an 8-1 win at number one doubles from Schupbach and Lucero, as they beat Elizabeth Dickhut and Esterjoy Mugai.  Lucero also earned a 6-2, 6-0 win over Dickhut at number one singles.

Hoffmann and Ferree gave the Kohawks their second win at number two doubles, as they beat Rachel Welgarz and Sarah Alt 8-1.  Ferree also beat Rachel Welgarz 6-1, 6-0 at number three singles.  Hoffmann picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win over Alt at number four singles.

At number three doubles, freshmen Tamara Washington (Corona, Calif./NoCo) and Shade Hannum (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque) beat Caroline Rainey and Rebecca Weglarz 8-0.  Washington was also a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Rainey at number five singles, while Hannum beat Rebecca Weglarz 6-2, 6-0 at number six singles.  Coe's final win came at number two singles, as Sebastian beat Mugai 6-0, 6-0.

The Kohawks wrap up their fall season next weekend, as they participate in the Iowa Conference Individual Championships Friday and Saturday.
