CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe men's tennis team rolled through their season opener Saturday, picking up 9-0 wins over conference rival Cornell and Augustana.  The Kohawks didn't lose a set in any of the 19 matches played on the day.
Freshman Ryan King (Wildwood, Mo./Wildwood) earned two wins at the number one spot, beating Kris Andresen of Cornell 6-2, 6-1 and Chris Mullin of Augustana 6-1, 6-1.  King also teamed with sophomore Scott Stegemann (Davenport, Iowa/Central) for a pair of wins at number two doubles.  They beat the Cornell pair 8-3 before beating the Augustana team 8-4.  Stegemann also earned a pair of wins at number six singles, beating Ryan Walden of Cornell 6-0, 6-2 and Nik Lehnert of Augustana 6-2, 6-0.
 
Senior Joey Lankelma (Marshalltown, Iowa/Marshalltown) earned a pair of wins at number two singles.  He beat John Mineck of Cornell 6-1, 6-2 before beating Augustana's Greg Ruth 7-5, 6-3.  He also teamed with Greg Janssen (Oshkosh, Wis./West) for a pair of wins at number three doubles.  They beat the Cornell team 8-1 before taking out the Augustana pair 8-0.  Janssen added a pair of wins at number three singles as well.  He beat Cornell's Neal Klauer 6-0, 6-1 before beating Augustana's Adam DeSimone 6-3, 6-2.
 
Senior Sam Zerbib (Phoenix, Ariz./Arcadia) picked up two wins at number four singles for Coe.  He beat Cornell's Brandon Wolff 6-0, 6-0 before taking out Augustana's Kyle Doyle 6-1, 6-2.  He also teamed with sophomore Elliot Rausa (Waterloo, Iowa/Columbus) for a pair of wins at number one doubles.  They beat the Cornell pair 8-2 before beating Augustana 9-7.  Rausa also added the final two victories for the Kohawks with a pair of wins at number five singles.  He beat Cornell's Courtland Olson 6-1, 6-0 before endng his day with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Augustana's Geoff Schoon. 
 
The Kohawks return to action next Saturday as they host Wisconsin-Eau Claire at 9 a.m. before taking on Monmouth at 5 p.m.  Both matches will be played at the Clark Racquet Center.
