CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Junior Jared Carder (Williamsburg, Iowa/Williamsburg) sealed the Kohawks 15th dual win of the year Friday night with a 6-1 decision over Cornell's Robert Widmer.  Coe trailed 19-18 heading into the final match of the night, before coming away with a 21-19 decision.
Second-ranked sophomore Clayton Rush (Aledo, Ill./Aledo) won the first match of the night by forfeit before fellow sophomore Brandon Ball (Columbus Junction, Iowa/Columbus Junction) upset fourth-ranked Nick Nothern 5-4.  It was the 24th win of the season for seventh-ranked Ball.

With the Kohawks leading 9-0, Cornell strung together three-straight wins to take a 15-9 lead halfway through the match.  The Rams won two matches by fall during the stretch, including a fall by Kevin Donahue over 10th-ranked freshman Johny Siegel (New London, Iowa/New London).

Third-ranked junior Tyler Burkle (Coggon, Iowa/North-Linn) and senior Bryon Grothus (Davenport, Iowa/Assumption) tied the match at 15 with back-to-back wins at 165 and 174 pounds for Coe.

With the match tied, Cornell's Kyle Kehrli earned a 13-4 major decision over Coe's Greg Lalla (Iowa City, Iowa/City).   Needing a win to keep the hopes of a Coe win in line, seventh-ranked junior Rob Kramer (Swisher, Iowa/Prairie) beat Carmen Sacco 6-2 to bring the Kohawks within a point at 19-18.

Carder led from start to finish in his 6-1 win over Widmer to give the Kohawks their seventh Iowa Conference win of the year.  The only loss for the fourth-ranked Kohawks was to second-ranked Wartburg at the conference duals.

The Kohawks return to action Feb. 16 and 17 as they travel to Decorah for the Iowa Conference Wrestling Championships.  The IIAC Junior Varsity Tournament will be held Monday night, with the NCAA Qualifying tournament the following morning.
