CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Coe's 6-0 lead in the first 2:14 of the game was all they needed as they cruised to a 76-45 win over Luther Saturday at Eby Fieldhouse. The win moved the Kohawks ahead of the Norse in the IIAC standings.
The Kohawks dominated the game from start to finish in all aspects. While the Kohawks jumped out to a 6-0 lead, they forced four Luther turnovers before the Norse could even attempt a shot. With Coe leading 6-0, Luther went on an 8-1 run to take its only lead of the game with 13:29 to play in the opening half.
Coe took its largest lead of the first half with 7:17 to play on a 17-3 run. Sophomore
Kayla Lincoln (Maynard, Iowa/West Central) scored eight of her 12 points during the stretch for the Kohawks. Luther closed the first half on an 8-3 run to cut the lead to nine at the break.
Luther scored the first basket of the second half just :11 into the period, but Coe took over from that point. An 18-2 run over the next 5:10 put the Kohawks up by 23 with 14:12 to go. Although the lead had grown, the Kohawks still weren't done on the offensive side of the ball. With 9:52 to play, the Kohawks went on an 8-0 run to extend their lead to 30 points. Three points by junior Abby Biedenfeld (Peterson, Iowa/Sioux Central) made it a 31 point game.
Sophomore
Brittany Norris (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Jefferson) scored a game-high 21 points and pulled down a game-high eight rebounds. Norris also added three blocked shots. Three other Kohawks scored in double figures. Lincoln dropped in 12 first half points while sophomore
Devvin Rolston (Clinton, Iowa/Clinton) and senior
Calie Sobaski (Iowa City, Iowa/City) each added 11 points off the bench.
Sophomore
Kaitlin Breitbach (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Washington) added five assists and four steals. Sophomore
Sarah Anciaux (Iowa City, Iowa/City) grabbed seven rebounds.
As a team, the Kohawks forced 27 Norse turnovers, while turning the ball over 17 times themselves. Coe was able to capitalize off the turnovers, as they scored 27 points off turnovers, while the Norse could only score 15 points off Coe's mistakes. Coe also dominated in the paint, outscoring the Norse 36-18. The Kohawks shot 52 percent from the field, while the Norse could only manage to shoot 33 percent.
Coe returns to action on Saturday, as they face the University of Dubuque. It will be senior day for the Kohawks, as well as a
