STORM LAKE, Iowa - Buena Vista used an 11-0 run late in the second half, as they beat Coe 69-66 in the regular season finale. The loss drops Coe to fifth in the league standings with a 13-12, 6-8 IIAC record.

After a back-and-forth start to the game, a jumper by junior Mary Halvorson (Waterville, Iowa/Waukon) with 11:48 to play in the first half sparked a 12-0 Kohawk run over the next 2:43. Buena Vista had an answer for the big Kohawk run, as a 3-pointer from Lexi Fisher with 8:51 to play in the half started a 19-4 run for the Beavers over the next 4:44, as Buena Vista took a 27-24 lead with 4:07 to play in the half. Junior Hannah Breitbach (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier) hit a pair of free throws with :24 to play in the half, tying the score at 30 going into the break.

Coe scored the first eight points of the second half in 1:03, as it took a 38-30 lead. The Beavers answered once again, going on a 12-2 run in the next 2:58, taking a 42-40 lead with 15:33 to play. The Kohawks trailed by five before going on a 6-1 run to tie the game with 7:20 to play on a layup by Halvorson. Buena Vista's Susan Kies then connected on back-to-back 3-pointers, starting an 11-0 Beaver run, as they took the lead for good. Kies ended the run with another long ball.

Senior Kayla Waskow (Dunkerton, Iowa/Dunkerton) scored six-straight points for Coe, as they cut the lead to five with 1:45 to play. A 3-pointer by junior Lindsey Buckles (Davenport, Iowa/West) and a free throw from Breitbach cut the lead to three with :46 to play, but Coe couldn't get any closer until :03 to play when Waskow scored on a layup and the free throw after being fouled.

Waskow led the Kohawks with 14 points, while Buckles and Halvorson joined her in double figures with 12 and 10 points respectively. Waskow obtained her 18th school record in the game, as she passed Sarah Anciaux for most minutes played in a career with 3,042. Breitbach added nine points, while sophomore Megan Hayes (Bettendorf, Iowa/Bettendorf) and junior Mackenzie Reed (Iowa City, Iowa/West) dropped in eight points apiece. Reed became the 45th player in school history with over 400 career points. Kies led the Beavers with a game-high 25 points.

Coe held a 40-31 advantage on the boards, with Waskow leading the way with 10. Hayes and Buckles had six rebounds apiece, while Halvorson added five. Waskow had a game-high four assists, while Breitbach and sophomore Kolbie Creger (Winterset, Iowa/Winterset) had three apiece.

The Kohawks were hampered by turnovers, as they committed 20, including 14 in the first half. Buena Vista scored 20 points off Coe's turnovers. The loss dropped Coe to 3-15 all-time in Storm Lake.

Coe will return to action on Tuesday, as they travel to Loras for an Iowa Conference Tournament Quarterfinal game. Tipoff in Dubuque in scheduled for 7 p.m. Coe is the number five seed in the tournament, while the Duhawks are the four seed.
