ORLANDO, Fla. - With three victories on Thursday, the Coe College men's tennis team closed the spring trip to Florida with its 17th-straight victory to open the season.

The Kohawks opened the day with a 5-4 win over Grand Valley State, a regionally-ranked NCAA Division II school. At number one doubles, sophomore Noah Sprinkel (Minneapolis, Minn./South) and senior Curtis Newman (Ankeny, Iowa/Ankeny) defeated Francis Bertrand and Bryan Hodges 8-6. Sprinkel also earned a 6-2, 6-1 win over Bertrand at number one singles.

Coe held a 2-1 lead after doubles play, as senior Sean Stokstad (Ramstein, Germany/Ramstein) and junior Michael Janssen (Oshkosh, Wis./Lourdes) defeated Andrew Bole and Ben Esh-Nauta 8-4 at number three doubles. At number three singles, freshman Yasushi Inoue (Japan) defeated Hodges 6-2, 6-1. Coe's final victory came at number six singles, as freshman Ryan Hickman (Hutchinson, Kan./Hutchinson) downed Michael Kaye 2-6, 6-4, 6-1.

In the middle match of the day, Coe took a 2-1 lead after doubles against Ohio Northern and held on for a 5-4 victory. At number one doubles, Sprinkel and Newman defeated Blake Troller and Joey Frank 8-2. Sprinkel picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win over Frank at number one singles, while Newman defeated Josh Saunders 6-2, 6-2 at number two singles.

Janssen and Stokstad gave Coe a 2-1 doubles lead with an 8-4 win over Saunders and Do Thai at number two doubles. Coe's final win came from sophomore Michael Woolf (Palatine, Ill./Palatine), as he defeated Mike King 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 at number six singles.

The Kohawks wrapped up the trip with a 9-0 win over Berry. Hickman and Inoue defeated Logan Yerbey and Seth Taylor 8-6 at number one doubles. Inoue also defeated Yerbey 6-2, 6-2 at number one singles. At number two doubles, freshman Zack Decker (Wyoming, Minn./Forest Lake) and freshman Mark Kroll (Castle Rock, Colo./Castle View) downed Ben Ortman and Kyle Stapleton 8-1. Decker was also a 6-4, 6-2 winner over Ortman at number three singles, while Kroll defeated Michael Tucker 6-2, 6-4 at number four singles.

At number three doubles, junior Daken Starkenburg (Ankeny, Iowa/Ankeny) and junior Alex Leovic (Littleton, Colo./Littleton) downed Tucker and Jake Pullen 8-3. At number two singles, freshman Geoffrey Brochet (France) defeated Taylor 6-4, 7-5. Coe's final two victories came from junior Alex Klaas (Douman, Wis./Catholic Memorial) and sophomore Scott Kleymann (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Linn-Mar). Klaas downed Pullen 6-1, 6-1 at number five singles, while Kleymann defeated Ethan Norton 6-2, 6-3 at number six singles.

Coe (17-0, 1-0 IIAC) returns to action March 16 as they host Augustana. The match is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. at the Clark Racquet Center.
