INDIANOLA, Iowa - The Coe College men's tennis team clinched a share of its second-straight Iowa Conference title Sunday with a 9-0 victory over Simpson. It is Coe's eighth title overall in the Iowa Conference.

Coe jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles play. Senior Curtis Newman (Ankeny, Iowa/Ankeny) and freshman Ryan Hickman (Hutchinson, Kan./Hutchinson) defeated Zach Kusick and Peter Reitgraf 8-1 at number one. Hickman also picked up a 6-1, 6-4 win over Alex Hook at number one singles. It was the 17th-straight singles win for Hickman, as he improved to 19-2 on the year.

At number two doubles, freshman Geoffrey Brochet (France) and junior Daken Starkenburg defeated Hook and Blake Billings 8-3. Brochet then improved to 15-0 in singles play with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Kusick at number two singles. Starkenburg picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win over Jeff Hadden at number four singles.

The final doubles win for Coe came at number three, as freshman Zack Decker (Wyoming, Minn./Forest Lake) and freshman Mark Kroll (Castle Rock, Colo./Castle View) defeated Hadden and Dylan Hogan 8-1. Decker was also a 5-7, 6-2, 10-7 winner over Peter Reitgraf at number three singles. It was the 11th-straight singles win for Decker. Kroll picked up a win by default over Hogan at number five singles. Coe's final victory came from sophomore Scott Kleymann (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Linn-Mar), as he defeated Billings 6-0, 6-4 at number six singles.

Coe (25-0, 6-0 IIAC) will look to clinch the outright Iowa Conference title on Wednesday as they travel to Wartburg. Coe will face the Knights at 4 p.m. in Waverly, while a split Kohawk squad will also travel to Knox for a 3 p.m. match in Galesburg, Ill.
