WAVERLY, Iowa - The Coe men's basketball team earned its third-straight win Wednesday night, as they defeated Wartburg 63-61 at Levick Arena.  It was the 64th career win for head coach Pat Juckem, which moved him into third all-time. 
The Kohawks jumped out to an early 7-0 lead and held the Knights scoreless in the first 4:37 of the game.  Coe used an 11-4 run to extend its lead to 11 with 9:35 to play in the opening period.  Cole Danielson hit back-to-back 3-point baskets for Wartburg to cut the Coe lead to eight at halftime.
 
Coe scored the first five points of the second half to open up its largest lead of the game at 13 before the Knights made it a game again.  The Knights then went on a 15-3 run to make it 37-36 in favor of the Kohawks with 10:15 to play.  Coe quickly answered with a 16-9 run to put the lead back to eight points with 5:13 remaining.
 
The Kohawks increased their lead to 11 with 2:53 to play before the Knights made one final run at the Kohawks.  A 9-0 Wartburg run made it a two-point game with :20 to play.  With :16 remaining, senior Christian Parent (Littleton, Colo./Littleton) hit a pair of free throws to put the Kohawks up four.
 
With :12 to play, Wartburg's Cashes Mason hit his first 3-point basket of the year to cut the lead to one.  With just :09 remaining, senior Kevin Dux (Boulder, Colo./Fairview) hit one of two free throws to make it 63-61.  A shot by Wartburg's Kelly McCarville fell short at the buzzer, giving the Kohawks the win.
 
Dux and junior Cass Behrens (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista) led the Kohawks with 14 and 12 points repectively.  Dux conntected on 4-of-8 3-point attempts, giving him 88 career makes from behind the arc, the 11th most in school history.
 
Parent added eight points and a game-high six assists off the bench.  Senior Marc Gorenstein (Longmont, Colo./Silver Creek) added six rebounds.  Dux and Behrens each had two steals, while sophomore Alex Tatman (Humboldt, Iowa/Humboldt) added a game-high three steals.
 
As a team, the Kohawks shot 48.9 percent from the field, while holding Wartburg to 34.5 percent shooting.  The Knights held a huge edge in free throw shooting, as they made 16-of-18 attempts, whle the Kohawks were just 6-of-12. 
 
The Kohawks will close out their season on Saturday as they travel to Simpson.  Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. in Indianola.
