WHITEWATER, Wis. - 28th-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater ended the longest winning streak in school history on Sunday, as the Warhawks downed Coe College 7-2 in the regular season finale for the Kohawks.
Wisconsin-Whitewater jumped out to a 3-0 lead on the Kohawks after doubles play. The number one doubles match featured two teams ranked in the top eight of the ITA Central Region rankings, as Mitch Osborne and Ben Shklyar defeated senior Curtis Newman (Ankeny, Iowa/Ankeny) and sophomore Noah Sprinkel (Minneapolis, Minn./South) 8-6. Coe lost 8-4 at number two doubles and 8-3 at number three.
Coe picked up a pair of singles victories. At number one singles, Sprinkel defeated Shklyar 7-6 (2-0), 6-2. Sprinkel was ranked eighth in the central region, while Shklyar was ranked fifth. At number four singles, Newman defeated Jake Humphreys 6-4, 4-6, 10-5.
The Kohawks (29-1, 7-0 IIAC) return to action on Saturday, as they host the IIAC Automatic Qualifier Tournament. Coe will play a 9 a.m. semifinal match. The first two rounds will be held Friday afternoon in Cedar Rapids.
