IOWA CITY, Iowa - Sophomore Ashley Schnell (Lincoln, Neb./North Star) took first place honors in the 800-meter run Friday at the Iowa Invite.  Her time of 2:14.96 is the ninth fastest in the country. 

With her win and high national time, Schnell has provisionally qualified for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.  She previously automatically qualified for the national championships in the mile run with her performance last week at the Iowa State Open.
 
Sophomore Alisa Denny finished third in a time of 27.66 in the 200-meter dash.  She beat six runners from NCAA Division I Bradley.  Denny also placed fourth in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 9.71.  Senior Kyle Brockmeyer (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy)  finished fifth in the 200-meter dash in a time of 23.33.  He also finished third in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.72. 
 
Freshman Ryan McCleeary finished fifth in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:01.53.  Senior Megan Niedart (Sumner, Iowa/Sumner-Fredericksburg) placed third in the weight throw with a toss of 12.22 meters.  In the men's weight throw, sophomore Dale Anderson finished fifth with a throw of 13.33 meters.
 
The Kohawks return to action next weekend when they travel to Wartburg for the Iowa Conference Indoor Championships.
