CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Coe College cruised through the Iowa Conference Automatic Qualifier Tournament this weekend, capping of the regular season with a 5-0 victory over Luther in the championship match.

Coe jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles play. At number one, senior Curtis Newman (Ankeny, Iowa/Ankeny) and sophomore Noah Sprinkel (Minneapolis, Minn./South) downed Quinn Foley and Ramesh Karki 8-3. Newman and Sprinkel, ranked sixth in the central region, improved to 26-5 overall with the win over the 12th ranked team in the region.

Coe went ahead 2-0 with a victory at number three doubles. Senior Sean Stokstad (Ramstein, Germany/Ramstein) and junior Michael Janssen (Oshkosh, Wis./Lourdes) defeated Sean Brown and Matthew Bellio 8-3. Coe went ahead 3-0 with a win at number three doubles, as freshmen Riley Galbraith (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy) and Yasushi Inoue (Kokubunji, Tokyo/Waseda) downed James Ayer and Nick Mozena 9-8.

Newman gave the Kohawks their first singles win, as he defeated Ayer 6-0, 6-0 at number four singles. Freshman Ryan Hickman (Hutchinson, Kan./Hutchinson) sealed the victory for the Kohawks, as he downed Foley 6-2, 6-4 at number six singles. 

The Kohawks (31-1) will learn their NCAA opponent and destination in the next few days.
