CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Iowa Conference Champion Coe College women's tennis team is heading to St. Louis for the NCAA Regionals this weekend. Coe will face Franklin in the opening round.
Coe earned the automatic berth into the NCAA Regionals by defeating Luther last weekend in the IIAC Automatic Qualifier Tournament. This is the fourth appearance in the NCAA's for the Kohawks, as they also qualified in 2007, 2008 and 2012. Coe is 3-3 all-time in the tournament and has never lost a first round match.
The Kohawks (19-4) have lost just one match to an NCAA Division III school this year, with that coming to nationally-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater on April 13. The Grizzlies are 15-4 on the year and also earned an automatic bid to the tournament. The winner of the Coe-Franklin match will face the winner of the match between #13 DePauw and Hope on Saturday. Washington University of St. Louis earned a bye on the other half of the bracket and will face the winner of the Wheaton-Principia match. The regional final is set for Saturday.
