SAINT LOUIS, Mo. - The Coe College women's tennis dual meet season came to an end on Friday, as 13th-ranked DePauw defeated the Kohawks 5-1 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
DePauw took a 2-0 lead with a 8-1 win at number three doubles and an 8-2 win at number one doubles before the Kohawks picked up a victory. At number one doubles, senior Michelle Schupbach (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Columbus) and junior Tai Lucero (Odessa, Texas/Permian) defeated Meg Crowley and Claire Marshall 8-5. In the latest ITA Central Region rankings, Crowley and Marshall were ranked second, while Lucero and Schupbach were ranked fourth. The 28 wins this year by Schupbach and Lucero are the second most in school history to their 29 last year.
The Tigers sealed the win with three singles victories. Elizabeth Young won 6-0, 6-0 at number six singles, while Julie Wittwer earned a 6-2, 6-2 at number four singles. Crowley won the deciding match at number three with a 6-2, 6-1 win.
Coe finishes the dual meet season with a 20-5 record overall.
