CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The NCAA Tournament run came to a close Sunday for the Coe College men's tennis team, as they were defeated 5-1 by 10th-ranked Washington University of St. Louis in the third round.
The Bears jumped out to a 2-0 lead in doubles with an 8-1 win at number one doubles and an 8-4 win at number three doubles. At number two doubles, freshmen Riley Galbraith (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy) and Yasushi Inoue (Kokubunji, Tokyo/Waseda) defeated Kareem Farah and Josh Cogan 8-6.
Washington University earned wins at number one (6-4, 6-1), five (6-4, 6-2) and two (6-3, 6-2) singles. Freshman Ryan Hickman (Hutchinson, Kan./Hutchinson) won the first set 6-4 over Farah before dropping the second 6-0. The match was tied 1-1 in the third when the match was over.
The Kohawks wrap up the dual meet season with a 32-2 record and an Iowa Conference Championship.
