CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College women's soccer team could not create any offense on Saturday afternoon. The Kohawks fell to Monmouth by score of 7-0.
Monmouth opened the scoring in just the second minute when Andrea Correa found the back of the net off an assist from Alex Kuykendall. That score remained for the next 26 minutes, but then Lauren Kellen scored the Fighting Scots second goal of the afternoon. Kellen tacked on one more goal to Monmouth's total before the half, this time in the 37th minute on a pass from Megan Snodsmith.
The Kohawks could not find an answer to the Monmouth attack in the second half. Kellen notched herself a hat trick when she scored in the 57th minute on an assist from Miranda Jones. Unique Manns made the score 5-0 when she scored in the 65th minute. In the 71st minute, Megan Altfillisch assisted on a Katy Rees goal to give the Fighting Scots a 6-0 lead. Monmouth's final goal came in the last minute of the game when Danielle Gordon took a Manns pass and found the back of the net.
Coe's best chances to score came from freshman Kelsey Fauser (New Castle, Colo./Coal Ridge) and senior Courtney Rogers (Marion, Iowa/Marion), each of whom attempted one shot on goal. As a team, the Kohawks only mustered seven shots for the entire game.
Coe, now 1-2, is back in action on Sunday, September 8, when it takes on MacMurray. The match is set to begin at 12:00 pm.
