The Big Red opened play with a three wins in doubles play.  Senior Molly Fiala (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Jefferson) and junior Andrea Schupbach (Waterloo, Iowa/Columbus), the fourth-ranked pair in the central region, fell 8-3 to Kristin Cobb and Marta Drane, the top-ranked doubles team in the region.

In singles play, 19th-ranked Fiala fell to 10th-ranked Cobb 6-3, 6-2.  Schupbach then dropped a 6-4, 4-6, 6-0 decision to 14th-ranked Erin Chadwell.  21st-ranked sophomore Hannah Jensen (Iowa City, Iowa/West) fell to fifth-ranked Drane 6-3, 6-7, 6-2 to conclude the match.

The Big Red improved to 2-1 on the year, while the Kohawks fell to 13-2.  The Kohawks were ranked sixth as a team in the Central Region, while Denison was first.  Coe will return to action twice on Saturday, playing seventh-ranked Pomona-Pitzer at 8:30 a.m.  They will also play their final matches of the tournament at 7:30 p.m. Saturday night.
