PELLA, Iowa - The Coe College men's tennis team took home three championships Saturday at the Iowa Conference Individual Championships. Coe won the Flight A Singles and Doubles titles, as well as the Flight C Singles.

The Kohawks dominated the Flight A Singles flight. Three of the top five seeds were Kohawks, with three of the four semifinalist all being from Coe. Junior Noah Sprinkel (Minneapolis, Minn./South) was 5-0 on the weekend, as he captured the title with a 6-1, 6-1 win over second-seeded Ramesh Karki of Luther. Sprinkel advanced to the championship match with a 6-1, 6-0 win over teammate, sophomore Ryan Hickman (Hutchinson, Kan./Hutchinson). It would be the lone loss of the weekend for Hickman, as he defeated freshman teammate Alex Bernt (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Columbus) 6-3, 6-2 in the third place match.

In Flight B Singles, sophomore Mark Kroll (Castle Rock, Colo./Castle View), was seeded second and finished third. Kroll advanced to the semifinals with a 6-7 (4), 6-1, 1-0 (12) win over Luther's Bjorn Norderhaug in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Kroll lost 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-2) to third-seeded Sam Buffington of Luther. Kroll bounced back in the third place match with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Luther's Aaron Ford.

Just like Flight A Singles, the Kohawks dominated Flight C Singles. All four semifinalist were Kohawks. On the top half of the bracket, sophomore Justin Sauter (O'Fallon, Mo./Ft. Zumwalt West) defeated sophomore Matt Moore (Scottsdale, Ariz./Home School) 6-2, 6-3. On the bottom half, freshman Bill Young (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier) downed freshman Tyrin Wages (Chicago, Ill./Morgan Park) 6-3, 6-0. Wages won the third-place match 6-4, 7-6 (7-3), while Young won the title 6-1, 6-4.

Coe and Luther had the top four seeds in Flight A Doubles, with all four advancing to the semifinals. In the top half of the bracket, top-seeded Sprinkel and sophomore Riley Galbraith (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy) defeated Luther's Karki and Appel 8-0. Luther won the match on the bottom half, as Ayer and Mayerchak downed seniors Sean Stokstad (Ramstein, Germany/Ramstein) and Michael Janssen (Oshkosh, Wis./Lourdes) 8-1. Coe won the final two matches, as Sprinkel and Galbraith took the title 8-3, with Stokstad and Janssen taking third with an 8-4 victory.

In Flight B Doubles, seniors Michael Woolf (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) and Alex Leovic (Littleton, Colo./Littleton) advanced to the championship match with a 9-8 (7-5) win over Luther's A. Ford and Shanahan. In the championship match, Luther's Knutson and Buffington won 8-6.

The Kohawks return to action next weekend, as they travel to St. Paul, Minn. for the ITA Midwest Regionals.
