SAINT PETER, Minn. - Junior Noah Sprinkel (Minneapolis, Minn./South) used a pair of three-set victories to advance to Sunday's ITA Midwest Regional semifinals.
In his opening match, Sprinkel defeated 16th-seeded Alex Boomgarden of Carthage 6-7, 6-2, 6-3. Sprinkel earned his spot in the semifinals with a 5-7, 6-1, 6-1 win over 17th-seeded Brian Klein of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Sprinkel, the top seed in the tournament, will face sixth-seeded Jake Humphreys of Wisconsin-Whitewater in the semifinals. The other semifinal features third-seeded Mya Smith-Dennis of Gustavus and ninth-seeded Jack Michael of Carroll.
Sophomore Riley Galbraith (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy) advanced to the quarterfinals of the singles draw with a 6-4, 6-4 win over eighth-seeded Bryron Balkin of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Galbraith was downed by Smith-Dennis 6-4, 6-4 in the quarterfinals.
In the doubles bracket, third-seeded Galbraith and Sprinkel downed Matt Baker and Mitch Elofson of Gustavus 6-5 to advance to the quarterfinals, where they defeated seventh-seeded Joey MacGibbon and Juan Luis Chu 8-5. In the semifinals, second-seeded Smith-Dennis and Motasem Al-Houni downed the Kohawk pair 8-6. Coe's second doubles team of senior Michael Janssen (Oshkosh, Wis./Lourdes) and senior Sean Stokstad (Ramstein, Germany/Ramstein) were defeated by Gustavus' Andres Saenz and Marcel Gyswyt 8-6.
The singles semifinals are scheduled for 9 a.m. Sunday, with the championship match to follow.
