ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - After trailing by just one goal at halftime, the Kohawk women's soccer team found themselves down three after an early second-half offensive surge by Bethel. Coe cut the lead to two before ultimately falling by a score of 5-1.
Bethel opened the scoring in the 14th minute of game action on a goal by Jessica Huseby. That was the lone goal of the half for either team as the hosts held a 1-0 lead at halftime.
Coming out of intermission, Bethel added two more goals to take a three goal lead over the Kohawks. Less than two minutes into the half, the Royals scored off the foot of Lydia Brubaker to take a 2-0 lead. Just 20 seconds later, the lead was upped to 3-0 when Jessica Huseby scored her second goal of the match.
In the 51st minute of action, junior Danica Mason (Pekin, Ill./Pekin) got Coe on the board and cut the lead to 3-1. The goal was Mason's third of the year, tying her for third on the team this season. Unfortunately for the Kohawks, that was all the closer they would get.
Two late goals by Bethel's Suzette Anderson gave the hosts a four goal lead, which proved to be the difference in the game. The Royals beat Coe by a score of 5-1.
The Kohawks, now 3-8-1, will welcome Iowa Conference foe Dubuque to town on October 12. That contest is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
