CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - After a scoreless first half for both teams, Grinnell scored two goals in the second period. Coe was unable to produce a goal of its own, ultimately falling by a score of 2-0.
The first 45 minutes of action did not produce any change in the scoreboard, as neither team was able to gain much of an advantage. Statistically, Grinnell held a 8-5 shot advantage in the first half, but the score at halftime was tied at zero.
In the second half, Grinnell again held an advantage in shots, this time to the tune of 7-3. After being unable to capitalize on their shot advantage in the first half, the Pioneers were able to turn their statistical advantage into a lead on the scoreboard in the second period.
Grinnell broke the scoreless tie in the 80th minute of action when Andie Semlow fired a shot past the keeper to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. The Pioneers upped their lead to two when Patty Murphy-Geiss scored a goal in the 84th minute. Coe was unable to notch a goal of its own, and the final score was 2-0.
Sophomore Kaitilyn Yanecek (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Prairie) fired two shots-on-goal for the Kohawks, but could not find the back of the net. Senior Courtney Rogers (Marion, Iowa/Marion) attempted four shots on the day.
The Kohawks, now 3-10-1 overall and 0-4 in Iowa Conference play, will travel to Indianola on October 19 to take on Simpson. That contest will begin at 1:00 p.m.
