CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - After Nebraska Wesleyan scored first-half goals, the Kohawks scored one of their own in the second half to cut the lead to one. However, that was all the Coe offense could produce and the home team fell 2-1.
In just the tenth minute of the game, Nebraska Wesleyan scored the games first goal off the foot of Ashley Slade. She was assisted on the play by Makensie Thaller. Thaller connected with Slade again in the 42nd minute to give the visitors a 2-0 lead in the first half.
The Prairie Wolves held an 11-0 lead in shots in the first half. They also held a four to none advantage in corner kicks. Coe's sophomore goalie Kaylee Weems (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Center Point-Urbana) made five saves in the first period.
The second half saw no change in the score for much of the period. However, in the 83rd minute sophomore Kaitilyn Yanecek (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Prairie) fired a pass to junior Danica Mason (Pekin, Ill./Pekin) which Mason turned into a goal. The goal was Mason's fourth of the year and cut the Coe deficit to one.
The Kohawk offense was unable to produce the game-tying goal in the final 10 minutes, leading to a 2-1 defeat. Weems recorded another two saves in the second half, giving her seven for the game.
Coe, now 3-12-1, will look to rebound on Saturday against Loras. The game is in Dubuque and scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
