SAINT LOUIS, Mo. - The Coe softball team split its first doubleheader outside of the state of Florida today.  Webster beat Coe 4-1 in the first game before the Kohawks took the nightcap 8-1.
The Kohawks were only able to manage one run on five hits in the first game.  Junior Abby Wedemeier (Maynard, Iowa/West Central) drove in freshman Katherine King (Altoona, Iowa/SE Polk) for the lone run of the game for Coe.  Pitcher Ashlee Simon (Riverside, Iowa/Highland) suffered her first collegiate loss in her seventh start.  The freshman struck out five batters, but gave up six walks and allowed four earned runs.

Coe put a full game together in the nightcap, as senior pitcher Sonja Schwenker (Burlington, Iowa/Burlington) gave up just three hits and struck out seven.  The lone run for the Gorloks was unearned.  The bats came alive late, as Coe scored five runs in the seventh inning in the win.  They tallied 11 hits total in the game.

King and junior Chelsea Zaugg (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier) both had two hits for the Kohawks.  Zaugg also added four RBIs, while freshman Abby Burger (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Jefferson) drove in three runs on her first career home run.

The Kohawks improved to 10-4 on the year and will return to action on Saturday at 10 a.m. when they face Washington University in St. Louis and Westminster.
