PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - The Coe softball team won its third-straight game Tuesday, as they swept a doubleheader with Wisconsin-Platteville.  Coe won the first game 12-0 in five innings and the nightcap 8-0.The Kohawks wasted no time scoring in the first game, as freshman Katherine King (Altoona, Iowa/SE Polk) reached base on an error by the first baseman.  King then stole second as junior Chelsea Zaugg (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier) walked.  As freshman Abby Burger (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Jefferson) flew out to right field, King advanced to third.  Zaugg then stole second, putting two runners in scoring position for senior Amy Hanse (Marion, Iowa/Linn-Mar).  Hanse singled up the middle to put the Kohawks up 2-0.

Coe tacked on three more runs in the second inning.  After a double-play eliminated two runners, Zaugg came to the plate and drove in three runs with her home run.  The Kohawks went hitless in the third inning, they added three more runs to the total in the fourth inning.

Senior Ashley Leonard (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy) singled to third base to start the fourth inning.  After stealing second, Leonard moved to third on a ground ball by King.  After Zaugg walked, junior Mackenzie Lang (Urbandale, Iowa/Johnston) reached on an error by the shortstop, allowing Leonard to score.  Sophomore Emily Burress (Des Moines, Iowa/Roosevelt), pinch running for Zaugg, stole third and scored on a throwing error by the catcher.  Coe closed the inning with another RBI single to right field by Hanse.  The Kohawks added four more runs in the fifth inning to seal the win, ending it in five innings by the run rule.

The Kohawks finished the game with 10 hits, including three by Hanse and two each by Leonard and freshman Amanda Hanson (Riverside, Iowa/Highland).  Leonard scored three runs in the win, while Zaugg and senior Danielle Leavens (Charles City, Iowa/Charles City) added two each.  Hanse finished with four RBI, while Zaugg and Lang added three and two respectively.

Freshman Ashlee Simon (Riverside, Iowa/Highland) earned her 12th win of the year in the circle.  She struck out six, while allowing no hits.  Junior Katie Kramer (Nevada, Iowa/Ames) struck out two, while not allowing a hit, in one inning of relief work.

Just like the first game, Coe jumped out to an early lead in the nightcap.  Hanson used a one-out single up the middle before stealing second to set the stage for Zaugg.  Zaugg singled to center field to plate Hanson to put Coe ahead for good.

Wisconsin-Platteville earned its first hit of the day in the third inning, but weren't able to plate any runners.  The Pioneers finished with three hits in the second game.

Coe used another big inning in the fourth, plating four runs to break the game open.  Zaugg started the inning with a single to first base.  Zaugg moved up on a sacrifice bunt by Hanse.  Senior Sonja Schwenker (Burlington, Iowa/Burlington) singled and advanced to second on an error by the left fielder that allowed Zaugg to score.  Schwenker then scored on a single by Lang.  Leavens then doubled to left center to plate CC Williams (Lisbon, Iowa/Lisbon).  Coe added two runs in the sixth and one run in the seventh for the win.

Coe tallied 16 hits in the nightcap, led by three hits from Williams.  Zaugg, Schwenker, Lang and junior Erica Smothers (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy) added two hits apiece.  Williams and Smothers each drove in two runs.

Schwenker recorded her second win in the circle in as many teams, this time striking out 11 batters, while giving up just three hits.  Schwenker struck out 14 in Coe's Sunday win over 20th-ranked Wartburg.  The win improved the southpaw to 6-3 on the year.

The Kohawks will return to action on Wednesday as they travel to Dubuque to take on the University of Dubuque.  First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
