HANOVER PARK, Ill. - The Coe College women's tennis team split a pair of matches on Saturday in their spring season opener. The Kohawks 8-1 win over Calvin was the 700th career win for head coach Eric Rodgers.

In the win over Calvin, Coe jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles play. At number one, Diannah Watson (SO, Frisco, Texas) and Laura Birky (SO, Cedar Rapids, Iowa) downed Megan Visser and Claire Spoelhof 8-4. Coe's second win came at number two, as Sarah Lasecki (FR, Cedar Rapids, Iowa) and Tamara Washington (SO, Corona, Calif.) defeated Bethan Zoerhof and Ellie Benzel 8-2. Washington also earned a 6-4, 6-1 win over Courtney Selvius at number six singles.

At number three doubles, Elizabeth Hoffmann (SR, Cedar Rapids, Iowa) and Rachel Schaefer (JR, Waterloo, Iowa) defeated Liz Turner and Selvius 8-5. Hoffmann also picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win over Turner at number five singles. At number one singles, Tai Lucero (SR, Odessa, Texas) downed Visser 6-2, 6-2, while Amy Sebastian (SO, Mundelein, Ill.) defeated Spoelhof 6-4, 6-2 at number two singles. Jordan Ferree (JR, Pekin, Ill.) was a 6-3, 6-0 winner over Zoerhof at number three singles.

Coe ended the day with a 6-3 loss to Wheaton. The Kohawks led 2-1 after doubles play, but dropped five of the six singles matches. At number two doubles, Birky and Watson downed Lauran Schlabach and Erika Nelson 8-6. Watson also picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win over Katherine Kaiser at number six singles. At number three doubles, Washington and Lasecki defeated Emily Jones and Taylor Parrish 8-6.

With two men's victories and the women's win over Calvin, Coe Head Coach Eric Rodgers earned his 700th career victory between the two sports. He now has 473 wins on the men's side and 228 on the women's side. 

The Kohawks will return to action starting next Saturday on spring break, as they play six matches in central Florida.
