ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - After a week of matches in the warm Florida weather, the Coe College women's tennis team returned indoors on Saturday for a pair of matches they split with Augustana and Wis.-Whitewater.
In the opening match of the day, Coe took a 2-1 lead after doubles play against host Augustana. At number one doubles, Tai Lucero (Odessa, Texas/Permian) and Jordan Ferree (Pekin, Ill./Pekin) defeated Dana Goggin and Lauren Goggin 8-3. Ferree was also a 6-0, 6-4 winner over D. Goggin at number three singles.
Coe's second doubles win came at number three, as Sarah Lasecki (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy) and Tamara Washington (Corona, Calif./Norco) downed Vicki Andonova and Miranda Pence 9-7. Coe's other two victories came at number four and five singles. At number four, Laura Birky (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier) defeated Aileen MacDonald 2-6, 6-4, 6-4, while Elizabeth Hoffmann (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier) downed Emily Kaczmarek 6-2, 2-6, 6-1 at number five singles.
The Kohawks dropped an 8-1 decision to the Warhawks in the final match of the day. Wis.-Whitewater entered the match ranked fifth in the ITA Central Region rankings. Coe's lone win came at number six singles, as Lasecki downed Jessica Vitale 6-2, 6-7 (4-7), 10-6.
Coe (15-3) returns to action on April 12, as they travel to Chicago. The Kohawks will face the University of Chicago at 10 a.m. and Case Western Reserve at 3 p.m. Coe will also face Washington University of St. Louis on Sunday at 2 p.m.
