QUINCY, Ill. - The Coe College women's tennis team earned a big 5-4 win Sunday, as they defeated NCAA Division II Quincy. The win improved Coe to 16-3 on the year.
The Kohawks held a 2-1 lead after doubles play, as they earned wins at the top two spots. At number one doubles, Jordan Ferree (Pekin, Ill./Pekin) and Laura Birky (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier) defeated Allison Callahan and Amy Kuhle 8-6. Ferree also picked up a 6-2, 6-2 win over Callahan at number three singles, while Birky earned a 6-4, 6-2 win over Michelle Gass at number four singles.
Coe's second win came at number two doubles, as Tai Lucero (Odessa, Texas/Permian) and Diannah Watson (Frisco, Texas/Lone Star) defeated Elizabeth Kuenzi and Gass 8-2. Lucero picked up Coe's final win, as she defeated Kuhle 6-1, 6-0 at number one singles.
After the next two weeks away from competition, the Kohawks return to action April 12 when they travel to Chicago. The Kohawks will face the University of Chicago at 10 a.m. and Case Western Reserve at 3 p.m.
