CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Senior Ashley Leonard (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy) broke the career hits record Saturday as the Kohawks earned a split with fourth-ranked Washington University in St. Louis.  It was hit number 203 for Leonard. The Kohawks struggled to reach base in the first game, as freshman Katherine King (Altoona, Iowa/SE Polk) tallied both of the hits for Coe in the game.  Freshman Ashlee Simon (Riverside, Iowa/Highland) took the loss in the circle, giving up five hits and one earned run in seven innings.  She also struck out 10 batters.

Coe ignited the bats early in the nightcap, scoring two runs in the opening inning.  Leonard tied the career hits mark with a double to left field to start the inning.  She score three pitches later, as King doubled down the left field line on an 0-2 pitch.  King advanced to third on a wild pitch to set up a suicide squeeze situation for senior Amy Hanse (Marion, Iowa/Linn-Mar).  WIth the bunt laid down, the third baseman over threw the play at the plate, allowing King to score and Hanse to reach first on a fielders choice.

Senior Sonja Schwenker (Burlington, Iowa/Burlington) helped her own cause with a one out, first pitch home run to right field, putting the Kohawks up 3-0 in the second.

Coe added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on three hits, while leaving one on base.  Senior Danielle Leavens (Charles City, Iowa/Charles City) doubled to center field with one out.  Leonard singled to shortstop to break the career hits record.  On  a 1-2 pitch, junior Abby Wedemeier (Maynard, Iowa/West Central) tripled down the right field line to plate both Leavens and Leonard.

Leonard, Wedemeier, sophomore CC Williams (Lisbon, Iowa/Lisbon) and Schwenker each had two hits on the day.  Schwenker earned the win in the circle in seven innings.  The southpaw struck out seven, while giving up just one earned run.

Coe returns to Iowa Conference play on Tuesday when they host Buena Vista in a doubleheader.  First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Clark Field.
