DECORAH, Iowa - For the fourth-straight match, the Coe College men's tennis team has defeated Luther in one of the biggest rivalries in the Iowa Conference. Coe won Saturday's match 7-2, locking up an IIAC Tournament berth.
The Kohawks took a 2-1 lead after doubles play. At number one doubles, Noah Sprinkel (Minneapolis, Minn./South) and Riley Galbraith (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy), ranked 25th in the country, defeated Quinn Foley and Ramesh Karki 8-4. Sprinkel was also a 6-2, 7-5 winner over Karki at number one singles. Sprinkel is ranked 21st in the nation. Galbraith also earned a singles victory, as he defeated Torstein Jystad 6-1, 6-2 at number two singles.
At number three doubles, Sean Stokstad (Ramstein, Germany/Ramstein) and Zack Decker (Wyoming, Minn./Forest Lake) downed Jystad and Isaiah Mayerchak 8-6. Stokstad also defeated Matt Bellio 6-3, 6-4 at number four singles. Coe also got singles wins from Ryan Hickman (Hutchinson, Kan./Hutchinson) and Michael Janssen (Oshkosh, Wis./Lourdes) at three and six singles. At number three, Hickman downed Kyle Appel 6-2, 6-3, while Janssen defeated Mayerchak 6-2, 6-3 at number six.
Coe (19-4, 5-0 IIAC) will return to action on Tuesday with a pair of Iowa Conference split squad matches. Coe will play matches in Pella against Central and in Dubuque against Loras. Both matches will start at 3:30 p.m.
