CHICAGO, Ill. - After winning its third-straight Iowa Conference Championship on Tuesday, the Coe College men's tennis team was faced with two top-20 programs on Saturday.
In the first match of the day, 17th-ranked Chicago defeated the Kohawks 7-2. The Maroons took the three doubles matches 8-4, 8-5 and 8-4. Coe cut into the lead with two singles wins, while dropping two other singles matches in three sets. At number three singles, Ryan Hickman (Hutchinson, Kan./Hutchinson) defeated Brian Sun 6-3, 6-3. Sean Stokstad (Ramstein, Germany/Ramstein) earned a 6-4, 6-2 win over Max Hawkins at number four singles.
The afternoon match wasn't any easier for the Kohawks, as 10th-ranked Case Western Reserve defeated Coe 8-1. Coe's lone win came at number four singles, as Stokstad defeated Derek Reinbold 7-6, 6-4. The top two singles players were both ranked in the top 50 in the country for Case Western Reserve.
Coe (21-6) will stay in Chicago for a match on Sunday, but the schedule doesn't get any easier for the Kohawks. Coe will face second-ranked Washington University of St. Louis at 2 p.m. in Chicago.
