DECORAH, Iowa - The Coe College softball team won its seventh-straight game with a sweep of fourth-ranked Luther Wednesday.  The Kohawks shutout the Norse in both games, winning 8-0 and 4-0.Senior Ashley Leonard (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy) doubled to left field to start the game.  After freshman Katie King (Altoona, Iowa/SE Polk) reached on an error by the left fielder, junior Abby Wedemeier (Maynard, Iowa/West Central) laid down a suicide squeeze bunt to plate Leonard and move King to second.  With two outs, senior Amy Hanse (Marion, Iowa/Linn-Mar) was caught stealing, but King was allowed to score from third on the play, putting the Kohawks ahead 2-0 in the first inning.

The Kohawks struck again in the second inning, adding two more runs to their total.  Senior Sonja Schwenker (Burlington, Iowa/Burlington) singled to center field to start the inning.  A sacrifice bunt by junior Mackenzie Lang (Urbandale, Iowa/Johnston) moved Schwenker to third.  With one out, sophomore CC Williams (Lisbon, Iowa/Lisbon) cracked her first home run of the season to left field to plate Schwenker, moving the Kohawks lead to 4-0.

After allowing just one hit by the Norse in the first three innings, the Kohawks added four more runs in the fourth inning.  Schwenker once again lead the inning off with a single.  A home run by Lang plated both runners.  A triple by Leonard plated a pinch-running Emily Burress (Des Moines, Iowa/Roosevelt).  King then singled through the leftside to score Leonard for the Kohawks final run of the game.

Leonard and Schwenker led the Kohawks with two hits apiece.  Lang and Williams both had two RBI.  Freshman Ashlee Simon (Riverside, Iowa/Highland) earned her 16th win of the season.  Simon gave up just two hits, while striking out seven.

Coe spread its runs out in the nightcap, with single runs in the second and fifth innings, as well as a pair in the seventh for the win.  With two outs, Leonard singled to right field to plate Zaugg, who led the inning off by reaching on an error by the shortstop.

In the fifth, Zaugg hit a one-out double to left center.  The Kohawks again scored on a suicide squeeze by Lang, as junior Erica Smothers (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy) scored, as she pinch ran for Zaugg.

An RBI single by Schwenker and a RBI double by WIlliams in the seventh inning sealed the win for the Kohawks.  Schwenker earned the win in the circle, as she improved to 10-4 on the year.  She struck out six, while allowing just two hits in the win.

The Kohawks return to action on Saturday as they travel to fifth-ranked Central.  First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. in Pella.
