CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - After losing a 7-2 lead, the Coe baseball team rallied for an 8-7 non-conference victory over Grinnell Thursday.  The win moved the Kohawks to 19-14 on the year. While the Pioneers posted two runs in the first inning, the Kohawks went hit-less through the first three innings.  The Coe bats came alive in the fourth inning as they tallied three runs on four hits.  Junior Pat Richmond (Algonquin, Ill./Dundee Crown)led the inning off with a single to left field.  With a 2-1 count, junior Ryan Schisler (Morrison, Ill./Morrison) singled up the middle.

A single by sophomore Ryan Velvick (Swisher, Iowa/Prairie) on a 1-2 pitch plated Richmond and moved Schisler to third.  Velvick advanced to second on the play.  After back-to-back infield outs, freshman Max Tunning (Iowa City, Iowa/Regina) singled to left field to plate Velvick and Schisler, giving the Kohawks their first lead of the game.

Coe kept the momentum alive in the fifth inning with four more runs on five hits.  Sophomore Jeff Wagner (Geneseo, Ill./Geneseo) singled through the left side to start the inning.  Wagner then moved to second and third on back-to-back wild pitches.  An infield single to second base by freshman Adam Nisenson (Crystal Lake, Ill./Central) scored Wagner.

Richmond then singled the next pitch through the left side, moving Nisenson to second.  A single to left field by Schisler plated Nisenson and moved Richmond to third.  Velvick then drove in Richmond, as he reached on a fielders choice.  A single by Senior Tyler McAllister (Ursa, Ill./Mendon-Unity) and a walk by junior Cody Raisch (Urbandale, Iowa/Urbandale) loaded the bases for Tunning.  As Tunning reached on a fielders choice, Velvick scored, putting the Kohawks ahead 7-2.

The Kohawks looked to add more runs in the sixth inning, but a triple play with runners on the corners prevented that from happening.  The Pioneers followed the impressive defensive play with an offensive outburst of five runs in the seventh inning to tie the game.  Coe battled back in the seventh, but left two runners on base.

Senior Teren Bladel (Davenport, Iowa/North) worked his way out of a jam in the top of the eighth inning on the mound.  In a 1-2-3 inning, the first and third batters worked 3-1 counts, but Bladel was able to get each of them to pop out on the fifth pitch.

With one out in the bottom of eighth inning, Wagner tripled off the right field fence.  On the very next pitch, Nisenson hit a sacrifice fly to center field to plate the winning run.

Wagner, Richmond and Velvick each crossed the plate twice.  Schisler led the offensive attack with three hits, while Wagner, Richmond, McAllister and Tunning added two apiece.  With his two hits, Richmond became just the 16th player in school history to tag 50 hits in one season and became the 11th player in school history to reach the 400 at-bat mark in their career.  Tunning finished with three runs batted in, while Nisenson and Velvick added two each.

Bladel improved to 2-2 on the year in two innings on the hill.  It was the 12th win of his career, mving him to 11th on the career wins list in his 47th career appearance, the fourth most in school history.

Coe returns to action on Friday afternoon as they travel to Luther.  First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. in Decorah.
