BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Coe College softball team extended its season-best winning streak to nine games Thursday with a 4-1 win over defending NCAA Division III National Champion Wisconsin-Eau Claire.  The Kohawks improved to 3-0 all-time against the Blugolds in the NCAA Tournament. After a scoreless first inning, the Kohawks put the first runs on the scoreboard at Illinois Wesleyan Field.  With two outs, sophomore CC Williams (Lisbon, Iowa/Lisbon) tripled down the right field line.  In the next at-bat, junior Mackenzie Lang (Urbandale, Iowa/Johnston) singled up the middle to plate Lang.

Senior Megan Jack (Independence, Iowa/Independence) hit her first double of the year, moving Lang to third.  Lang scored on a throwing error by the second baseman, while Jack was thrown out at home trying to score on the error as well.

The Blugolds scored one run on a hit and an error in the fifth inning, but the Kohawks added to their run total in the bottom of the inning.  With one out, Jack reached base on an error by the shortstop.  The overthrow allowed Jack to move to second.  After a single by freshman Amanda Hanson (Riverside, Iowa/Highland) singled, while Jack moved to third on a throwing error by the shortstop.  Hanson moved to second as senior Ashley Leonard (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy) grounded out to third base.  A single up the middle by junior Erica Smothers (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy) plated both Hanson and Jack.

Leonard and junior Chelsea Zaugg (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier) also added a hit for the Kohawks in the win.  Freshman Ashlee Simon (Riverside, Iowa/Highland) tossed a complete game in her first NCAA Tournament experience.  She struck out 10 batters, while giving up just two hits.  She walked none and the one run was unearned.

Coe will return to action on Friday at 2 p.m. at Illinois Wesleyan.  Coe will face either Wisconsin-Eau Claire again or defending NCAA runner-up Wisconsin-Whitewater.  The Warhawks are the top seed in the region.
