CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Wisconsin-Whitewater, ranked 17th in the nation in the latest AVCA Top 25 Coaches Poll, handed 23rd-ranked Coe College its first home loss Tuesday night at Eby Fieldhouse.
Both teams battled back-and-forth in the first two sets, but it was the Warhawks that came away with a 27-25 win in the first set and 25-22 in the second. Wisconsin-Whitewater went the distance in the third set, as they won the match with a 25-19 victory.
Only one player reached double-figure kills in the match, with Coe's Lindsey Koch (Hudson, Iowa/Hudson) leading the way with 10. Brianna Smith (Johnston, Iowa/Urbandale) had seven kills, while Mackenzie Harbaugh (Manchester, Iowa/West Delaware) and Lauren Himan (Roland, Iowa/Roland-Story) had six kills apiece. Harbaugh led the Kohawks with 25 assists and 14 digs. Ali Arns (Waverly, Iowa/Waverly-Shell Rock) added 11 digs, while Madi Miller (Coralville, Iowa/West) and Meghan McClimon (DeWitt, Iowa/Central) had 10 and eight respectively. Jaimee Rindy (Gypsum, Colo./Eagle Valley) and Smith had two black assists apiece.
The Kohawks (4-2) return to action on Friday, as they travel to the Barker Chevrolet Classic in Bloomington, Ill. Illinois Wesleyan is serving as the host school. Coe will play two matches on Friday and two on Saturday, including a match on Saturday against Ohio Northern, who was receiving votes in the latest AVCA Top 25 Coaches Poll.
