STORM LAKE, Iowa - Buena Vista hit .368 as a team Tuesday night, as the Beavers handed Coe College its first Iowa Conference loss of the season at Siebens Fieldhouse.
The Kohawks came out flat in the first set, hitting -.167 with five kills and nine errors. On the other side, the Beavers hit .474 with 12 kills, as they won the set 25-15. Coe fought back in the second set, connecting for 12 kills as they hit .219. The Beavers hit .278 with 17 kills and held on for a 25-22 victory. The final set went back-and-forth with 12 ties and five lead changes. Both teams hit over .400 in the set, but the Beavers escaped with a 29-27 victory to take the match 3-0.
Lauren Himan (Roland, Iowa/Roland-Story) (Roland, Iowa/Roland-Story) led the Kohawks with nine kills, while Lindsey Koch (Hudson, Iowa/Hudson) and Olivia Leisinger (Council Bluffs, Iowa/Lincoln) had seven apiece. Brianna Smith (Urbandale, Iowa/Urbandale) and Mackenzie Harbaugh (Manchester, Iowa/West Delaware) finished with five kills each. Harbaugh also had 24 assists, while Smith and Madi Miller (Coralville, Iowa/West) had four and three assists respectively. Harbaugh had a match-high three service aces. Miller led the Kohawks with 10 digs, while Koch had seven. Ali Arns (Waverly, Iowa/Waverly-Shell Rock) finished with five gis, with Harbaugh and Smith having four apiece.
Coe (10-5, 1-1 IIAC) returns to action on Friday, as they travel to Mequon, Wis. for the NACC/IIAC Border Battle. Coe will face Dominican (1 p.m.) and Edgewood (5 p.m.) on Friday before facing Aurora (12 p.m.) and Concordia-Wisconsin (4 p.m.) on Saturday.
