MEADVILLE, Pa. - Coe College Head Baseball Coach
Steve Cook was recently inducted into the Allegheny College Athletics Hall of Fame. Cook was one of the most well-rounded ballplayers to wear a uniform for Allegheny.He is best known for earning accolades in three different positions, as he earned four All-NCAC honors at shortstop, second base and third base. Cook was a 1993 second-team All-American and first-team All-Region selection at third base. His junior year, he was named a second-team All-Region selection at second base. He was also named the NCAC Player of the Year in 1993. He ranks among the top 10 categories in career doubles, walks, stolen bases, runs, hits, total bases, batting average and home runs.
During the 1993 season, Cook finished with a .451 batting average, third
highest in school history, and compiled 15 doubles (tied fifth all-time),
32 stolen bases (sixth), 57 runs (eighth) and 54 hits (10th). The Gators
won the NCAC Championship that season, finishing with a 37-5 record. He
finished his career as the all-time leader in doubles (41). The Gators tallied a 107-53-1 record during Cook's four years. In 1994, Cook was signed by the California Angels.
After his playing days with the Angels organization, including a stop with the Cedar Rapids Kernels, Cook was named the head coach at Coe in 1996. During his time at Coe, he has compiled over 250 wins, the most in school history.
