CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College women's tennis team, winner of three-straight Iowa Conference Championships, opened defense of its title Wednesday with a 9-0 win over Central.Defending Iowa Conference Flight A Singles Champion Hannah Jensen (Iowa City, Iowa/City) earned two wins for the Kohawks.  The junior tallied a 6-1, 6-2 win over Sara Dale at number one singles, while she teamed with senior Megan Fiala (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Jefferson) for an 8-5 win over Emily Swartz and Trinh Le at number three doubles.

Returning All-American doubles player Andrea Schupbach (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Columbus) was a 6-3, 6-0 winner over Faith Bliss at number two doubles.  The senior also teamed with her freshman sister, Michelle Schupbach (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Columbus) for an 8-0 win over Bliss and Kayla Donner at number one doubles.  Michelle was also a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Steph Gibbons at number four singles.

Senior Hillary Allen (Ft. Collins, Colo./Ft. Collins) also earned two wins on the day.  Allen took a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Emily Swartz at number three singles, while teaming with junior Katy Delagardelle (Waterloo, Iowa/Columbus) for an 8-1 win over Dale and Gibbons at number two doubles.  Delagardelle earned a 6-3, 6-3 win over Donner at number five singles.  Freshman Sara Ohlman (Washington, Ill./Washington) was a 0-6, 6-4, 10-6 winner over Jamie Ruisch at number six singles.

The Kohawks will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Olivet Nazarene University.  The match is scheduled to start at 10 a.m.
