STORM LAKE, Iowa - After a disappointing opening weekend to the 2009 season, the Coe volleyball team stormed out of the gates in its Iowa Conference opener Tuesday night.  Coe defeated Buena Vista 3-1 in convincing fashion.Coe took the first set 25-17, before the Beavers tied things up with a 25-23 win in the second set.  The Kohawks took care of business in the final two sets, winning 25-13 and 25-15 for their first win of the season.

Freshman Molly Steffens (Peosta, Iowa/Western Dubuque) led four Kohawks in double figures for kills with 14.  Sophomore Kaitlin McClimon (DeWitt, Iowa/Central), along with freshman Elizabeth McDonnell (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Jefferson)and Kelsey Heins (Postville, Iowa/Postville), each added 10 kills.

Freshman Emily Ryan (Mount Vernon, Iowa/Mount Vernon) had a game-high 37 assists.  McClimon had two solo blocks and two block assists.  Steffens and McDonnell joined her with two block assists apiece.

As a team, the Kohawks hit .333 percent in the match.  They held the Beavers to just .059 percent hitting.

The Kohawks return to action on Friday  night when they travel to the Wisconsin-Platteville Triangular.  They will face the Pioneers at 4 p.m., followed by a match with Carthage at 6 p.m.
