INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - For the third-straight year, senior Melissa Alger (Lisbon, Iowa/Lisbon) has qualified for the NCAA National Track & Field Championships in the discus throw.
Alger will compete at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday in Waverly on the campus of Wartburg College. Alger enters with the sixth best throw in the nation at 158' 1" (48.18m). Alger has won the discus title at five meets during the outdoor season this year, including the Iowa Conference Championships for the third-straight year.
Last year, Alger finished 14th at the NCAA Championships with a throw of 147' 5" (44.94m). During her sophomore year, Alger earned All-American honors with a fifth-place finish with a then school record throw of 150' 8" (45.92m). Her throw of 158' 1" (48.18m) at the Iowa Conference Championships this year is the current school record.
