CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - In the final two dual meets of the fall season, the Coe College Kohawks cruised to a pair of wins over Buena Vista and Nebraska Wesleyan.
Coe opened the day by taking a 3-0 lead after doubles. At number one, Haley Resnick (Bettendorf, Iowa/Assumption) and Lauren French (Raleigh, N.C./North Raleigh Christian) beat Lannie Brown and Tarynne Kinghorn 8-1. Kaitlin Fosler (Lincoln, Neb./Pius X) and Christine Puleo (Carpentersville, Ill./Jacobs) downed Emma Hartz and Rica Mizero 8-3 at number two doubles. Ella White (Roseville, Minn./St. Anthony Village) and Laura Gibson (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Gibson Academy) earned a win at number three doubles by default.
In singles play, Resnick beat Brown 6-0, 6-0 at number one singles, while French was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Kinghorn at number two. Tori Montoya (Westminster, Colo./Holy Family) picked up a 6-4, 6-3 win over Hartz at number three singles, while White beat Mizero 6-1, 6-2 at number four singles. Gibson beat Madison Gierstorf 6-1, 6-1 at number five singles, while Puleo earned a win by default at number six singles.
Coe also jumped out to a 3-0 lead in doubles in the win over Nebraska Wesleyan. At number one, Resnick and Sarah Lasecki (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy) beat Bridget McKeegan and Torey Kogel 8-0. Fosler and Montoya were 8-1 winners over Jaime Bridges and Victoria Van De Veer at number two doubles, while White and Puleo beat Madi Hinshaw and Kelsie Dewey 8-3 at number three doubles.
French picked up a 6-2, 6-2 win at number one singles, while Lasecki beat Kogel 7-6, 6-4 at number two singles. Both French and Lasecki have won nine of their last 10 singles matches. At number four singles, White beat Bridges 4-6, 6-4, 11-9, while Gibson beat Van De Veer 2-6, 6-3, 10-3 at number five singles. Coe's final win came at number six, as Puleo beat Dewey 6-1, 6-0.
The Kohawks (9-1, 7-1 IIAC) return to action on Friday, as they travel to the Iowa Conference Singles and Doubles Championships. The tournament will be held in Waterloo.
