SAINT PETER, Minn. - Seven Kohawks, led by senior
Greg Janssen (Oshkosh, Wis./West) competed at last weekend's ITA Midwest Regional, hosted by Gustavus Adolphus College. Janssen advanced to the round of 16 in both singles and doubles play.In the largest field of players in ITA history, Janssen went 3-1 in singles and 2-1 in doubles. His three-straight singles wins were all in straight-sets. His loss in the round of 16 to Amrik Donkena of Gustavus went to three sets. Janssen teamed with
Victor Khristenko (Constanza, Romania) in doubles, where they earned 8-5 wins over teams from St. Norbert and Lawrence, before falling to Winston Park and Ben Guzick of Carleton in the round of 16.
Sophomore
Ryan King (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette) was 2-1 in singles play, with straight-set wins in the first two rounds, before losing a 6-4, 7-5 decision to Kelvin Caiati of Wisconsin-Whitewater. King and freshman
Curtis Newman (Ankeny, Iowa/Ankeny) split a pair of doubles matches. Newman also split his singles matches, with both going to three sets, in his collegiate debut.
Junior
Scott Stegemann (Davenport, Iowa/Central) and freshman
Kyle Tucker (Swisher, Iowa/Prairie) also split their doubles matches. Stegemann went 1-1 in singles play, with his loss coming to Scott Sundstrom of Luther, who would eventually become the ITA Doubles Champion.
