WATERLOO, Iowa - The Coe College women's tennis team had two of the top three finishers in Flight A Singles and two of the top four in Flight A Doubles at the IIAC Championships on Saturday.
In Flight A Singles, Haley Resnick (Bettendorf, Iowa/Assumption) beat Luther's Jackie Cychosz 6-2, 6-3 in the semifinals. In the other semifinal, top-seeded Arantxa Martinez from Dubuque beat Lauren French (Raleigh, N.C./North Raleigh Christian) 6-2, 6-1. In the championship match, Martinez beat Resnick 6-0, 6-3. French won the third place match by default.
Coe had two pairs in the semifinals in Flight A Doubles, but both dropped semifinal matches. Sarah Lasecki (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy) and Kaitlin Fosler (Lincoln, Neb./Pius X) dropped an 8-5 match to top-seeded Cychosz and Pressler of Luther. In the bottom half of the bracket, Resnick and French were knocked off by Dubuque's Martinez and Albino 9-8 (16-14). In the third place match, French and Resnick beat Lasecki and Fosler 8-3.
The IIAC Championships wraps up the fall season for the Kohawks. Coe returns to action on Feb. 26, as the Kohawks host Kalamazoo at the Clark Racquet Center.
